What can I do if a landlord discriminates against me?

In most cases, it is against the law for a landlord to treat you unfairly because of your:

  • race, colour, or ethnic background
  • citizenship or the country you are from
  • religion
  • age (if you are at least 18, or if you are 16 or 17 and independent from your parents)
  • sex, sexual orientation, , or
  • marital status

or because you:

  • are pregnant
  • have children
  • are on social assistance (welfare)

The law also bans by people working for your landlord. It also means your landlord must try to do something if you are being discriminated against by other tenants.
