reconsideration

If you do not agree with a decision that the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) makes, you can ask them to review and change it. This is called asking for a reconsideration. For example, you might disagree with a decision about qualifying for benefits, how much money you get, or how long you can get benefits.  

adjourned

If your case is adjourned, it is postponed and rescheduled for another date.  Your case can be adjourned for many reasons, for example, if the Landlord and Tenant Board does not have time to hear your case on a particular day.

To adjourn a Landlord and Tenant Board (LTB) hearing means to postpone it and reschedule it for another date. The LTB can adjourn your hearing for many reasons, for example, if they do not have time to hear your case on a particular day.

statutory deductions

The law says that there are certain amounts that an employer must take from an employee’s wages. These are called statutory deductions.
For example, employers must take money for income taxes, Employment Insurance (EI) premiums, and Canada Pension Plan (CPP) contributions.
An employer cannot take more than what the law allows.

household

A household is a person or a group of people who live in the same home. The people don’t need to be family members. Examples of households include a person living alone, roommates, or a grandparent living with grandchildren.

service manager

A city, county, district, or region that is responsible for the subsidized housing located in its area. For example, the service manager for all subsidized housing in Peterborough County is the City of Peterborough.

Canada Pension Plan (CPP) disability benefits

Canada Pension Plan (CPP) disability benefits are for people who:

have a severe and prolonged disability that prevents them from working regularly or earning more than a limited amount of money
are under 65 years old
contributed enough to CPP

evidence

Evidence is used to prove that something is true or false. There are different types of evidence, such as information from witnesses, and documents like letters from a doctor. Tribunals look at evidence when making decisions.

gender-based crimes

Gender-based crimes are criminal offences committed against a person because of their gender identity or gender expression. Gender-based crimes can happen between people in intimate relationships, friends, acquaintances, co-workers, and strangers. Anyone can be the victim of a gender-based crime, but girls, women, and gender-diverse people are at a higher risk of gender-based violence.
