During the COVID-19 situation, LAO is offering more telephone support. Anyone can use this service to get legal advice and information. It doesn’t matter what your income is.
LAO has a free summary advice line that lets you talk to a lawyer for up to 20 minutes to get information and general advice about your family law matter.
This includes information about:
- your legal options and what might happen
- separation, divorce, custody, access, child support, or spousal support
- the family court process and mediation
You usually have to call and give some information about your legal issue and where you live, and a lawyer will call you back.
Contact Information
The Law Society of Ontario has set up a temporary emergency family law referral telephone line. This is because since March 16, 2020, Ontario’s family courts are only open for urgent matters because of the COVID-19 situation.
You can call this service if you have a family law issue and you:
- don’t have a lawyer
- don’t know if your issue is urgent or not
- don’t know your next steps if your matter is urgent
If this is your situation, the referral service will help you get 30 minutes of free legal advice and information from a family law lawyer.
