What benefits are available during COVID-19?Updated January 10
The federal government and the Ontario government have announced several benefit programs to help people help during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The federal government offers these programs:
- Canada Recovery Sickness Benefit (CRSB) for workers who can't work because they have COVID-19 or who have to self-isolate due to COVID-19
- Canada Recovery Caregiving Benefit (CRCB) for workers who can't work because they're taking care of a child or family member with COVID-19
- Canada Worker Lockdown Benefit (CWLB) for workers who can't work because they're in a lockdown region

The Ontario government offers the following help:

|Emergency Assistance||Available to people not on OW or ODSP.||Ongoing||This is short-term financial support if you're in a crisis or an emergency situation and don't have enough money for things like food and housing.|
|Electricity rates||Residential customers, small businesses and farms will be charged the lowest rate of 8.2¢/kWh, 24 hours a day.||From January 18, 2022 to February 8, 2022||This rate will automatically be applied to your bill.|
|Ontario Electricity Support Program (OESP)||Monthly credit available to people with low incomes.||Ongoing||The credit you get depends on how many people live in your home and your combined household
|Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LEAP)||A grant of up to $1,000 for people who owe money on their electricity or gas bills.||Ends December 31, 2022||Contact your gas or electricity service provider for more information. There are details about the program here.|
|OHIP||The 3-month waiting period for OHIP coverage has been waived.||Started March 19, 2020||Applies automatically.|
|Ontario Drug Benefit Program||Available to households covered by the Trillium Drug Program (TDP) and whose household's income has decreased by 10% or more since 2018.||Ongoing||Get the Trillium Drug Program reassessment form. There are details about the program here.|
