What happens if I don't follow a condition of a peace bond?
Not following a condition of your peace bond is called a breach. If you breach your peace bond, you can be charged with disobeying an order of the court or breach of recognizance. These are both criminal offences. If you're found guilty, you will likely have a criminal record.
You must pledge money to the court as security when you sign a peace bond. This money is usually not deposited with the court. It is usually $500 or $1,000, but it can be more or less than that. If you breach a condition of your peace bond, you may have to pay this money to the court.
