Can I leave Ontario and still get ODSP?

Now, if you have a MyBenefits account, you must declare that you've not left Ontario for more than 30 days. You must do this each month through your MyBenefits account.

If you do not have a MyBenefits account, you do not have to do this.

To qualify for from the Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP), you must live in Ontario.

But you can leave Ontario for 30 days or less and still get income support.

And ODSP can give you income support even if you're away more than 30 days. They do this if they agree that you need to be away:

for health reasons,
to attend a college or university, or
for what ODSP calls “exceptional circumstances”.

ODSP can approve you being away more than 30 days before you go or after you come back. Step 2 talks about asking for approval.

ODSP will say that you have an for income support you get after being outside Ontario for 30 days without their approval.

And if you're away for several months or more, ODSP may also cut off or suspend your income support. If they suspend it, this means that they stop giving it to you for a period of time.

If you're part of a , ODSP will reduce income support that goes to the household by the amount they pay for you. This includes the amount you get for housing.
