My refugee claim from Afghanistan was denied. Can I apply for a Pre-Removal Risk Assessment?
In most cases, if your refugee claim in Canada is denied, you might be able to apply for a Pre-Removal Risk Assessment (PRRA). A PRRA is a written document where you explain why you're afraid to return to your country and you provide evidence to support your fear.
Usually you can't apply for PRRA until one year has passed since your claim was rejected. But on October 18, 2021, the government announced that the one year waiting period would not apply to citizens of Afghanistan whose refugee claims were denied between October 19, 2020 and October 18, 2021. If your claim was refused within this time frame, you don't need to wait one year before you can apply for a PRRA.
You can also apply if you already made a PRRA application that was denied during this time period.
