2. Lose your security money

What happens if I don't follow a condition of a peace bond?
This question has an answer and 3 steps

2. Lose your security money

When you enter into a peace bond, you pledge money as security. Usually it's $500 or $1,000, but the amount can be more or less than that. If you don’t follow the conditions in the peace bond, you can lose this money.

If the court decides to ask for the security money you pledged, an estreatment hearing is scheduled. You're given a chance to explain why you should not have to pay.

If you had a legal excuse for breaching the condition, you may be able to convince the court that you shouldn't have to pay the security money.

You don't need a lawyer to represent you at an estreatment hearing, but you can hire one if you want.
