So even if you get to keep money from tips, your employer must still pay you the minimum wage for your job.

There's more than one minimum wage. The Ministry of Labour has information about the different minimum wage rates.

Federal laws

The Canada Labour Code also says tips are not counted as wages. So your employer must still pay you minimum wage, even if you get tips.

If you work in an industry covered by Part III of the Canada Labour Code, the minimum wage is $17.30.

But if Ontario's minimum wage is higher for your job, you get that amount instead. For example, the homeworker minimum wage rate in Ontario is $18.90. So if you are a covered by federal laws, your minimum wage is $18.90 instead of $17.30.
