5. Apply for benefits

Even if you are not sure that you will qualify for EI benefits, it is still a good idea to apply.

To apply for EI benefits you must fill out an application online. The online application will give you instructions for sending documents to Service Canada. If you don't have internet access at home, you can apply at a Service Canada Office using one of their internet kiosks or at a public internet access site like a library.

Before you go to the Service Canada Office in your area, you should call to find out if you need to make an appointment.

If you don't speak English or French, bring someone who can translate for you.

When you go to your appointment, remember to bring your (ROE), medical proof, and the other necessary documents.

You'll need an ROE from every employer you worked for in the past 52 weeks. Your ROE shows your history at a particular job, like the dates you worked, how much you earned, and how many hours you worked.

There are rules that your employer must follow when preparing your ROE. If your employer does not provide an ROE, you can ask them for it using this tool.
