Understand the contract before you sign

If an employer wants you to sign a contract saying you're an independent contractor, read the contract carefully.

You might want to ask for more time before signing the contract if:

• you need help to understand the contract
• you want to get legal advice about the contract

If you know others who work for that employer, you could ask them:

• if they signed the same contract
• about their experiences working for the employer

But an employer might want you to decide quickly. If they cancel the job offer before you sign the contract, there might not be anything you can do.
