5. Learn about your other options
If you're found , there may be ways you can overcome this. Depending on your situation, you may be able to:
- apply for Ministerial Relief, which means asking Canada's Minister of Public Safety to excuse you from the normal rules,
- apply to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for rehabilitation after what the law calls a cooling period and show that you won't commit crimes in the future, or
- apply to IRCC for a humanitarian and compassionate (H&C) exemption, even if you're not eligible for rehabilitation.
If enough time has passed since you completed your and the crime was not very serious, you might still be able to enter Canada. This is called deemed rehabilitation.
You don't have to apply to be deemed rehabilitated. But you should be sure you qualify before you try to enter Canada.
