2. Gather your financial information, if you’re not on OW

If you're not getting from Ontario Works (OW), you start by applying to the Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP).

You need to give detailed information about you and other people in your to show that you qualify for from ODSP.

It's a good idea to collect all the information and documents before you apply. It speeds up the process if you have them all ready.

Collecting the information you need

You need to give ODSP the following information about yourself and anyone else in your household:

  • name and date of birth
  • immigration status

You also have to give:

  • your address
  • your housing costs and what type of housing you live in, for example, whether you live in a place that you rent or own

Needing a special diet

People who have certain medical conditions may be able to get a special diet allowance as part of the income support they get from ODSP.

If you or others in your household qualify for a special diet, ODSP must look at this when they decide whether you qualify for income support.

So, it can be important to apply for a special diet allowance when you apply for income support.
