4. Get a decision about your special diet money

Beware of scams

People have been getting phone calls with a pre-recorded message telling them their Ontario Works account has been deleted.

This is a scam to trick you into sharing your personal information. If you get a call like that, hang up the phone. You can report these calls to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501.

Ontario Works (OW) will send you a letter with their decision about your application for a special diet allowance.

If OW gives you a special diet allowance

If OW decides to give you a special diet allowance, the letter will tell you the amount.

OW will also say if they've decided to give you a “review date”.  This means that OW plans to review your medical condition at that time to see if you still need a special diet allowance.

If OW refuses to give you a special diet allowance

If OW refuses to give you a special diet allowance, you may be able to appeal the decision.
