5. Get a decision

Beware of scams

People have been getting phone calls with a pre-recorded message telling them their Ontario Works account has been deleted.

This is a scam to trick you into sharing your personal information. If you get a call like that, hang up the phone. You can report these calls to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501.

The (SBT) member makes a decision after the hearing.

You get the decision in the mail, usually within 2 months. The SBT also sends the decision to the Ontario Works (OW) office that made the decision you appealed.

If you win your appeal, the OW office will have to do what the SBT decision says.

If you lose your appeal, you may want to talk to a community legal clinic to find out if there are other steps you can take. And if you were getting , you'll probably have to pay it back to OW.
