4. Cancel within 30 days of getting your second bill

You can cancel your energy contract up to 30 days after you get your second bill.

You will not have to pay a cancellation fee.

But you will have to pay for the electricity or natural gas you used up until you cancelled the contract.

How to cancel

Your energy contract should have information about how to cancel your contract. This information may also be on your energy retailer’s website.

Usually, you can cancel by writing to the energy retailer or calling them. Check your contract or the retailer’s website for rules on how to cancel.

If you cancel by phone, the energy retailer must record the call and send you written confirmation of your cancellation.

The law says energy retailers have to let you cancel your contract by writing. But they do not always have to let you cancel by phone. If your contract says you cannot cancel by phone then you have to cancel by writing to your energy retailer.
