In many industries, the same unions are in many workplaces. These unions often know a lot about working conditions in those industries.

To find out what different unions might be best for your workplace, you can contact the Canadian Labour Congress, Ontario Region. Or you can call them at 1-800-387-3500 or 416-441-3710.

Process for getting a union in your workplace

To get a union into your workplace, you need to have at least 40% of workers sign union membership cards.

Then you can apply to the Ontario Labour Relations Board. Usually, the Board sets up a voting process. You need to get more than 50% of the votes in favour of the union.
