Keep track of vacation pay your employer owes you
Question & Answer
Does my employer have to pay me for vacation? The law says that your employer must keep records of:
- your vacation time, including what you've earned and taken, and what they owe you
- your vacation pay, including what you've earned and taken, and what they owe you
- the you've earned
Your employer must give you this information if you ask for it.
But it's a good idea to keep your own records in case your employer's records are not correct.
And it's helpful to have your own records if you do not agree with your employer about how much vacation pay they owe you.
Check each pay stub for mistakes when you get it.
If you see something you disagree with, one way to show that you kept records is to send yourself email messages. In the message, include:
- how many hours you worked
- how much you earned
- how much you were paid
