5. Learn what happens if someone disagrees with your decision

The person getting the treatment or their doctor or might think that you did not follow the rules about making decisions.

If this happens, they can apply to the Consent and Capacity Board. They could do this if they believe that you're:

  • not following the person's wishes, or
  • not acting in their best interests. 

The Board gives their opinion, which can replace yours. For example, if you've been refusing to follow the doctor's treatment plan, they can order you to follow it.
