5. Renew your coverage
Question & Answer
Do I need tenant insurance? Most tenant insurance plans end after one year. If you plan to stay at the place you're renting for more than one year, make sure you renew your coverage before it ends. If the cost of your coverage goes up, you can ask the insurer about changing your plan or try to negotiate a better rate. You might also decide to use a different insurance company.
Cancelling early
If you're renting for less than one year, you might be able to cancel your insurance early. The insurance company might charge a cancellation fee.
Insurance for a new rental unit
If you are moving, tell your insurer. You can probably keep the tenant insurance plan you already have but the cost of your plan could change.
