5. Reapply every year

To keep getting your Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) benefits, you have to prove that you qualify for them every year. You do this by making a renewal application each year.

You must have filed your tax return and got your Notice of Assessment for the most recent tax year, before you can renew.  If you have not filed your taxes and need help, a free tax clinic may be able to help you.

You can submit your renewal application:

CDCP coverage ends on June 30 each year. You must submit your application before June 1 to make sure there are no gaps in your coverage.

If you submit your application later, it may not be approved before your coverage ends. And you may not be covered for a period of time. For example, if you submit your renewal application on June 30, you may be approved for coverage starting July 30. This means you are not covered for any dental care from July 1 to July 29.

After you submit your renewal application, you get a letter telling you:

  • whether you still qualify,
  • when your new coverage starts, and
  • the details of your plan.
