2. Learn about licence suspensions

Your drivers licence can be suspended if you get too many demerit points or if you’re convicted of a serious driving offence. For example, you can have your licence suspended immediately for:

  • driving more than 50 km/h over the posted speed limit
  • dangerous driving
  • driving with a blood-alcohol level over .08 mg/l
  • running from the police

If a judge finds you guilty of driving more than 50 km/h over the speed limit, they can suspend your licence for 30 days. If you’re found guilty of stunt driving, they can suspend your licence for up to 2 years for your first offence. This can stay on your criminal record for many years.
