I’m a permanent resident. How do I apply for Canadian citizenship?

Most people can now apply for Canadian citizenship online through the new Canadian Citizenship Portal.

You must still apply on paper if:

  1. you want your representative to complete and submit your application for you, or
  2. you include time as a Crown servant or the of a Crown servant when you calculate your time spent outside Canada.

  • a checklist to make sure you send in the documents you need to include
