5. Consider cancelling your contract

If you're having a problem with your energy retailer, you may be able to cancel your contract.

During the “cooling-off period” you can cancel for any reason without being charged anything. The cooling-off period is within 10 days of signing a new contract, or within 14 days of renewing or extending a contract.

You can also cancel less than 30 days after getting your second bill. You will not have to pay a cancellation fee but you will have to pay for any services that you used up to the time you cancel.

You can still cancel more than 30 days after you get your second bill but you will have to pay a cancellation fee.
