4. Get a hearing date and a copy of the application

Your landlord applies to the (LTB) for an above guideline increase using a Form L5: Application for a Rent Increase Above the Guideline.

The LTB will check the landlord's to make sure it's complete. The LTB then sets the hearing date.

Tax applications usually have written hearings. This means that the LTB makes its decision based on documents from the landlord and tenants.  The landlord and tenants are not present at the hearing.

The LTB gives the Notice of Written Hearing to the landlord. Then the landlord must give a copy of the application and the to all tenants who are affected. They must do this within 20 days after the date the LTB issued the Notice of Written Hearing. The issue date is shown on the notice.

If you didn't get a notice about your landlord's application to the LTB, contact the LTB to ask if your landlord has applied.
