I’m on ODSP. Do I have to apply for CPP disability benefits?Workers pay into the Canada Pension Plan (CPP), which is called making contributions.
You might be able to get CPP disability benefits if all of the following are true:
- you're under 65 years old
- you have enough contributions to the CPP
- you have a severe and prolonged disability that stops you from working
The CPP and Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) use different definitions of disability.
You might get from ODSP as a “person with a disability”. But to get CPP disability benefits, you have to fit the CPP’s definition.
