2. Think about open and closed adoptions

When you place your child for adoption you also have to think about whether you want to get information about your child and have some contact with them after they are adopted.

If you want this, you must ask for an open adoption. With an open adoption you may be able to stay connected to your child through letters, pictures, telephone calls, or in person visits.

You may be able to choose an open adoption with any type of adoption – public, private or family.

The question ‘What is an open adoption' has more information on how open adoptions work and what you have to do if you want one.

If you don't want any information or contact with your child, you have to ask for a closed adoption.
