What does it mean to place a child for adoption?If less than 21 days have passed since you signed the , you can change your mind about placing your child for adoption and withdraw your consent.
There is no penalty for changing your mind and withdrawing your consent.
If you change your mind and more than 21 days have passed since you signed the adoption consent, you have to apply to court.
A court may let you withdraw your consent if:
- your child has not yet been placed with the adoptive family, and
- the court thinks it is in the child's best interest to be returned to you.
