3. Go to your LTB hearing

Remember that if you don't sign a payment agreement, you still have the right to a hearing. At the hearing, you can tell the your side of the story and ask for time to pay off the rent you owe.

The law says that if you owe rent from any date on or after March 17, 2020, the must ask if your landlord tried to negotiate a payment agreement with you. If you didn't sign the agreement because you don't think your landlord's payment plan was reasonable, you can explain this at the hearing. You should also say if your landlord never offered an agreement, or if they ignored a payment agreement you offered them.

If you have a good reason for why you couldn't pay rent on time, you can ask the LTB member to take this into account. For example, you couldn't pay rent because you lost your job. The LTB member might consider this when they make their decision about how much time you get to pay the rent and if you have to pay the landlord's legal costs.

If you get an eviction order

If the LTB makes an eviction , you still have one more chance to stop the eviction by paying everything you owe plus your landlord's legal filing fees.
