5. Give your application to the LTB
When your form is completed, you have to file it with the (LTB). You must file your application within one year of moving out of the rental unit.
There is a filing fee of $53. If you file through the Tribunals Ontario Portal, the fee is $48.
If you have a low income, you can ask the LTB not to charge you the fee. To do this, you have to fill out a Fee Waiver Request form. If you file through the Portal, the fee waiver request is part of the application. You can also ask the LTB to send you this form or you can download it from the LTB website.
There are different ways to file your application.
In person: You can file your application in person at some ServiceOntario Centres. You can pay the filing fee by cash, credit card, debit card, certified cheque or money order. Certified cheques and money orders must be made payable to the Minister of Finance. The LTB will not accept an ordinary uncertified cheque.
By mail: You can mail your application to your closest LTB office. You must complete and include a Credit Card Payment Form if you're paying by credit card.
Online: You can file your application online using the Tribunals Ontario Portal. To pay the fee, you will need to give the LTB your credit card or debit card information. Make sure you get confirmation on your screen that the LTB has received your application.
By fax: You can fax your application to 1-833-610-2242 or 416-326-6455. You can only use fax if you have a fee waiver. And you should only use fax if you can't send your application any other way.
After the LTB processes your application, they will send a Notice of Hearing package to you, the purchaser, and your landlord.
You should start preparing for the hearing as soon as possible. It's important to be fully prepared for your hearing. You only get one chance. If you are not prepared or you are missing important , the LTB probably won't let you come back another day.
