Question and answer
How do I change the gender marker on my Ontario birth certificate? It's a good idea to photocopy your complete for your records before you submit it.
Mail your package of completed forms and supporting documents to:
Office of the Registrar General
189 Red River Road, P.O. Box 3000
Thunder Bay, Ontario
P7B 0B3
You must submit the original signed forms and documents. Photocopied or faxed forms are not accepted.
If the application is complete and filled out properly, you will get a new birth certificate in the mail. This usually takes 6-8 weeks but can take longer.
If anything is missing, ServiceOntario will contact you or return the package with instructions.
If you choose to include a gender marker on your new birth certificate, you can use the certificate to update the gender marker on your other identity documents. For example, to update the gender marker on your driver's license or Ontario photo card.
