What is a permanent resident travel document and how do I apply?Before you apply for a (PR) travel document, make sure you review the eligibility requirements, Instruction Guide, and Document Checklist. You also might need to send supporting documents for your specific country.
Pay your $50 processing fee online. You must submit the fee receipt with your application.
Gather documents
Gather the required supporting documents.
Make sure that you include at least two pieces of that can show you met the residency requirement in the 5 years immediately before the application. For example, photocopies of:
- employment records or pay stubs
- bank statements
- (CRA) Notice of Assessment for the 5 years immediately before the application
- evidence that you received benefits from Canadian government programs
- rental agreements
- club memberships
There may be other documents that prove you met your residency requirement. Get legal help if you're not sure what to include.
Urgent processing
You might be able to apply for urgent processing if you're travelling back to Canada within the next 5 days. For example, you might urgently need a PR travel document if a is sick or your PR card was lost or stolen while you were temporarily outside Canada. Make sure to include the additional documents IRCC requires to explain the urgency. But you still might not get your PR travel document in time.
