Guided Pathway on financial planning after separation
CLEO’s Guided Pathway on financial planning for separation can help you set financial goals and make a budget if you’re:
- thinking about separating or divorcing,
- in the process of separating, or
- recently separated.
The pathways help you think about the factors that can impact your financial situation and how it may change after you separate. This can help reduce conflict and stress, and plan for the future.
The pathways also give you information on how to get support with budgeting and financial planning, including how to deal with debt.
The pathway is divided into 2 parts:
- The first part helps you understand your attitudes and habits around money, your role with finances in your family, your level of financial knowledge, and your financial goals.
- The second part is a budgeting tool. It asks you questions to help you get a better sense of your budget now, and to help you make a budget for after you separate. It uses your answers to create a detailed monthly budget for you.
You can do both parts of the pathway or skip ahead to the budgeting tool.
The pathways are free to use. When you’re finished, you can save or print your budget and any notes you made during the pathway.
What you need to get started
It’s a good idea to gather the information listed below before you use the budgeting tool. You can still use the tool without this information, but you’ll need to revise your budget later. If you don’t have exact information about your finances, your budget will be more of an estimate.
If you can, get:
- copies of your tax information for the last 3 years
- documents showing your current income
- documents showing your regular monthly expenses
- value of real estate you own or other assets
- information about your debts
Using the pathway
You can sign up to create an account or use the pathway as a guest. If you choose not to create an account, the system will time out after 1 hour of inactivity. You must create an account if you want to save your work on the system, or use the other pathways.
Any personal information that you enter into the pathways is confidential. CLEO will not give your personal information to anyone unless you ask us to do this. Read more in our Terms of Use and Privacy Policy.
