How do I get back to work after an injury?
Question & AnswerHow do I get back to work after an injury?
1. Think about what job duties you can do
After a work injury, if you are well enough, you should try to stay at work or get back to work as soon as possible.
If you can do some things but not others, your doctor or therapist will fill out a Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) form that tells the WSIB what you're able to do.
It's important to tell your doctor what you think you're able do so that the information they put on the form is correct. It is also important to explain to your doctor how and when the injury happened and describe the symptoms you began to experience after.
Be as accurate as you can when you describe what you can and cannot do.
If you have to do physical things in your job, like standing, walking, sitting, or carrying, the doctor will describe on the form how you're doing with these types of activities.
If you have an injury that affects how you think, the doctor will describe if your mind is getting better and how it's improving.
If you've been off work, usually the first step in talking with your employer about getting back to work is having your doctor or therapist fill out one of these forms.
