Question and answer
How and when must I report a workplace injury or illness? When you finish reporting your injury or illness using the online services, the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) gives you a reference number. This number refers to your report before the WSIB opens a claim .
The WSIB opens a claim file for you once they get a report from you, your employer, or a health professional.
The WSIB should also send you a letter telling you what your is.
Any time you contact the WSIB, they'll ask for your claim number. Make sure to keep it where you can easily find it.
If you do not get this letter within one week of reporting your injury, contact the WSIB to find out why.
