1. Learn about what you get

If you speak French, you have the right to bilingual proceedings if you ask for one. In a bilingual proceeding, you will get:

  • a judge who speaks French and English,
  • a jury that speaks French and English, in certain locations, and
  • an interpretation of anything said in court in English or French into the other language, if you or your legal representative only speaks the other language.

You have the right to bilingual proceedings in all hearings in your case, like motions, pre-trials, and conferences.
