What if my landlord says they can evict me without an LTB order?If your landlord keeps threatening to you without going through the proper eviction process, you might want to take further action. You can file a T2 application at the (LTB).
The LTB can the landlord to stop making the threats and to pay you compensation for the stress they caused you. You can also ask for a rent abatement, which is when a portion of the rent you paid is given back to you.
If you move out because of the landlord's threats, you can ask the LTB to have them to pay for your out-of-pocket costs like moving expenses and for the increased rent you might be paying at your new place. If your landlord has already locked you out, you can ask the LTB to make them let you move back in.
If you think your landlord will follow through on their threats very soon, you can also send the LTB a Request to Extend or Shorten Time for a hearing. Check off the box that says you want to shorten “the time for serving a Notice of Hearing and schedule an early hearing for my ”. Explain why you think your landlord will evict you soon. If you have any of the threats, attach it to the form.
You should send this form right away if you think your landlord might try to lock you out of your place.
