4. Keep your information up to date
Question & Answer
What is rent-geared-to-income housing? How can I apply for it?Once the confirms that your is complete, they will add you to their housing waitlist.
You could be on the waitlist for a long time. The average time on a rent-geared-to-income (RGI) waitlist is about 2 to 9 years. Wait times depend on the type of housing and where you live in Ontario.
While you are on the waitlist, you need to tell the service manager if there are certain changes in your life. This update is so that they know you are still eligible to live in RGI housing. It also tells them if you still want RGI housing.
It's important that you send in an update as soon as you can after the change happens. If you don't, you might be removed from the waitlist. For example, a service manager is allowed to take you off the waitlist if they can't reach you using the contact information you gave them.
Check with your town or region to see what information you will need to keep up to date. Here are some common things:
- new contact information, like your phone number or mailing address
- any income changes
- any changes to your legal right to live in Canada
- any changes to the buildings you'd like to live in
The service manager will also ask you to send in your Notice of Assessment form each year that you're on the waitlist.
