If you're being harassed or your employer has discriminated against you, it can be helpful to make detailed notes about what happened or things that people said.

It's best to make the notes when things happen while you still remember them well. This is important because, as time passes, people can forget details of events. Emailing the notes to yourself can help to prove the date that you made the notes.

Try to include information about:

  • the date, time, and place
  • who did or said things
  • who saw or heard what happened
  • what you did at the time

If you receive any discriminatory emails or letters, save these as well.

If the you experienced relates to a policy or rule, it ‘s good to get a printed copy of the policy or rule.
