Beware of scams

People have been getting phone calls with a pre-recorded message telling them their Ontario Works account has been deleted.

This is a scam to trick you into sharing your personal information. If you get a call like that, hang up the phone. You can report these calls to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501.

Contact your Ontario Works (OW) office to see if you:

  • can re-apply without doing a whole new application
  • have to start over with a new application

OW can let you re-apply if you stopped getting less than 6 months ago.

If it was more than 6 months but less than a year, they can still let you re-apply. But they might want you to do a whole new application.

If it's been more than a year since you got assistance from OW, you have to start a new application.
