2. Ask OW to check information in some other way
Beware of scams
People have been getting phone calls with a pre-recorded message telling them their Ontario Works account has been deleted.
This is a scam to trick you into sharing your personal information. If you get a call like that, hang up the phone. You can report these calls to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501.
Question and answer
OW wants proof of something I cannot give them. What can I do?Try to get what Ontario Works (OW) asks for and keep a record of your efforts.
But OW should not say that you have to get documents that you cannot get for reasons that are out of your control.
So if the OW office asks you to get something that you cannot get, ask them to check the information some other way. For example, you can ask OW to get the information instead.
Getting help
You may want to get help from a community legal clinic if:
- you do not understand what OW wants
- you think OW is being unfair
- you think OW is asking for information they cannot require you to give them
