4. Ask Ontario Works to pay for the documents

Beware of scams

People have been getting phone calls with a pre-recorded message telling them their Ontario Works account has been deleted.

This is a scam to trick you into sharing your personal information. If you get a call like that, hang up the phone. You can report these calls to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501.

If you can't afford to get the documents that Ontario Works (OW) wants, ask them to pay for the cost of getting the documents.

For example, if OW wants to see banking records and you have to pay a fee to get these from the bank, ask OW to pay the fee.

You may want to get help from a community legal clinic if OW:

  • asks for documents you can't afford to get, and
  • refuses to pay for them.
