Can I get OW money while waiting for an OW appeal decision?

Beware of scams

People have been getting phone calls with a pre-recorded message telling them their Ontario Works account has been deleted.

This is a scam to trick you into sharing your personal information. If you get a call like that, hang up the phone. You can report these calls to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501.

If you disagree with a decision from Ontario Works (OW), you may be able to appeal to the (SBT).

To start your appeal, you complete the SBT's Appeal Form.

When you complete the Appeal Form, you can ask the SBT to order OW to pay you .

If the SBT decides that you can get interim assistance, they order your local OW office to pay it to you.

Paying back interim assistance

Interim assistance that you get will be considered an if:

  • you don't go to your SBT hearing
  • you lose your appeal to the SBT
