4. Go to your hearing

On the day of the hearing with the Employment Insurance Board of Appeal (EI BOA):

  • bring your docket and all related documents
  • arrive 30 minutes early for hearings that happen in person
  • make sure your devices work properly for virtual hearings

If you're late or do not attend, the hearing may go ahead without you.

Each appeal hearing is heard by a panel of 3 members of the EI BOA from the area you live in.

EI BOA members do not work for the government. They're trained and able to assess appeals.

At the hearing

Panel members will:

  • guide you throughout the process
  • ask you to explain your situation
  • let everyone involved speak and present their positions
  • review your case and consider all supporting documents and statements that were made during the hearing

Hearings are informal and usually open to the public.

After the hearing

The panel will:

  • review the evidence they got
  • make a decision
