refurbished

A refurbished phone or device is one that the company has fixed up to re-sell. Usually the device was owned by someone else and given back to the company.

Registered mail is mail that is tracked from the time it is sent until it is delivered. It usually requires the person who accepts the delivery to confirm that they received the package by signing for it.

To serve a document by regular service means you have to give a copy of that document to your partner or their lawyer by either:

  • mail
  • courier
  • document exchange
  • fax
  • email

There are rules about how to serve a document by regular service that depend on how you serve the document. For example, you can serve a document by electronic document exchange or email only if the person you’re serving agrees or you have a court order that allows you to serve documents this way.

Most documents can be served by regular service. In some cases, such as when you’re starting a court case, you have to serve your document by special service.

In Housing Law

A remedy is an order made by a court or tribunal to give someone their legal rights or to compensate them for their rights not being respected. For example, if a landlord is not doing repairs that are needed, the Landlord and Tenant Board could order the landlord to do the repairs, lower the tenant’s rent until the repairs are done, or let the tenant move out with short notice. Usually a tenant or landlord can ask the Board for certain remedies by filing an application with the Board.

Reporting conditions can be terms of a court order. If your court order includes reporting conditions, you have to report regularly to a specific person, such as a probation officer or a police officer.
